Generators and Light Towers

Benoit Rentals supplies a number of onsite lighting and power generator options for construction sites, wellsites, and other remote locations. Our wheeled light towers create a safe, illuminated worksite where early morning and night time operations are required. They are offered in 8kW units all the way up to 20kW units and include onboard generators, numerous receptacles and an automatic, 25′ mast for easy onsite set up and tear down. Our portable generators, which are offered from 5kW up to 20kW, are easily transported and are able to provide sites with the appropriate amount of power that they need for their operation.

Generators

Our generators are designed to create power on sites that do not have access to utilities. They come in several sizes to best suit your needs.

Our 8kW light tower is more powerful than our 6kW model, while remaining easy to transport and set up.

Our 20kW light towers can be used for onsite lighting as well as power generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate whether a 5kW, 8kW, or 20kW generator is required for my site load?
Determining the appropriate generator capacity requires calculating both continuous running wattage and the initial surge or starting wattage demanded by inductive loads like electric submersible pumps, air compressors, and furnace motors. Our fleet ranges from compact 5kW and 8kW models—ideal for basic power tools, office lighting, or temporary hand-wash stations—up to robust 20kW units capable of handling multiple high-draw industrial loads simultaneously. Our technical team can review your site’s one-line electrical schematic or equipment list to ensure you select an appropriately sized generator that avoids nuisance breaker tripping and engine underloading wet-stacking.
Our 20kW light towers are engineered as versatile dual-purpose power plants, functioning simultaneously as high-mast illuminated light plants and dedicated job-site distribution generators. While the energy-efficient light heads draw a modest electrical load at the top of the 25-foot mast, the oversized 20kW onboard diesel generator provides ample reserve capacity through multiple exterior breaker-protected receptacles. This dual-duty architecture allows operators to illuminate dark wellpads while powering a mobile office trailer, heating a portable washcar, or running heavy power tools from a single mobile footprint, slashing rental expenses and fuel-hauling costs.
Operating across the exposed prairie terrain of Alberta and Saskatchewan exposes machinery to brutal minus-40-degree cold snaps where diesel engines frequently struggle to crank. Benoit Rentals equips its generators and light towers with heavy-duty cold-weather winterization packages. These include integrated 120V engine block heaters, heavy-duty battery blankets, severe-cold synthetic engine oils, and reliable glow-plug preheating systems. When paired with winter-blend diesel and anti-gel additives, our units reliably start up and maintain continuous electrical generation throughout freezing northern blizzards, preventing freeze-up downtime on critical remote leases.
Refueling equipment on remote, unstaffed leases or busy 24-hour turnaround sites can quickly become an operational and logistical bottleneck. Our wheeled light towers and portable diesel generators are manufactured with high-capacity, heavy-duty onboard fuel cells designed to deliver extended runtimes between servicing. Under standard lighting and moderate electrical auxiliary draw, our 8kW and 20kW units deliver between 24 and 60+ continuous hours of uninterrupted operation per fill. This high runtime drastically reduces daily fuel-truck dispatches, minimizes manual lease intervention, and keeps round-the-clock shift work safe and compliant.
Raising lighting masts on open, wind-swept prairie locations requires exceptional structural stability to protect field crews and surface equipment from tipping hazards. Our wheeled light towers feature automatic 25-foot vertical masts operated via simple electric or hydraulic push-button controls, eliminating the strain and pinch hazards of manual hand-crank towers. Each trailer is built on a heavy-gauge steel chassis equipped with three to four extendable outriggers and leveling jacks that form a wide, sturdy footprint capable of safely withstanding sustained prairie wind gusts up to 80-100 km/h when deployed properly.
Job-site safety and electrical code compliance depend on having versatile, protected power distribution connections right at the unit. Benoit Rentals’ generator and light tower units are outfitted with an array of weather-sealed, circuit-breaker-protected receptacles, including standard 120V 20A duplex GFCI outlets for hand tools, 120/240V 30A twist-lock connectors, and heavy-duty 50A California-style or RV shore-power plugs. This flexible configuration makes connecting temporary distribution panels, office trailers, mobile washcars, and battery-charging stations fast and straightforward, completely eliminating unsafe, spliced electrical connections in hazardous field environments.
Benoit Rentals designs its mobile lighting and generator inventory for rapid, hassle-free field deployment across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our trailer-mounted units are fitted with highway-rated axles, durable trailer lighting packages, and interchangeable hitch couplers (standard 2-5/16″ ball or heavy-duty pintle rings), allowing them to be towed behind standard half-ton or three-quarter-ton crew trucks. If your company lacks transport hot-shots, our dedicated logistics division dispatches units directly from our Chauvin hub straight to your lease or construction yard, complete with leveling cribbing and pre-delivery inspection documentation.
On long-term drilling campaigns or multi-week pipeline shutdowns, running generators 24/7 means accumulating engine hours quickly. Typical diesel generator intervals require oil, fuel, and air filter maintenance every 250 to 500 operating hours. At Benoit Rentals, every generator returns to our shop for comprehensive load-bank testing, electrical inspection, and mechanical servicing between rentals. For long-term leases out in the field, we partner with your site maintenance team or local service providers to coordinate scheduled on-site lube and filter services, ensuring peak engine longevity without unannounced power interruptions.
Workplace lighting and utility power demands change drastically with the seasons—from short daylight hours during winter completions to sudden emergency utility outages during summer construction. Benoit Rentals provides flexible, non-restrictive rental terms that adapt to your evolving project milestones. Whether you need an 8kW light plant for a weekend utility tie-in, a bank of 20kW units for a multi-month plant turnaround, or emergency standby power to protect refrigerated and heated assets, our daily, weekly, and monthly rates protect working capital and maximize operational flexibility.
